Speedplay

Founded in 1991, Speedplay have been on a mission to revolutionise the pedal shoe interface for almost 30 years now. Speedplay pedals have many interesting design features; however the fundmaental thing that sets their road pedals apart from other pedal manufacturers, is that they think of the pedal itself as the cleat and actually attach the locking mechanism to the bottom of the shoe.

There are many benefits to Speedplay's unique approach. Double-sided entry on some of their pedals makes clipping in and out a doddle. The locking mechanism engages in such a way that they never unwantedly un-clip due to extreme pedalling force, good news for any power-houses amongst us. Lots of float is built into the cleat/pedal design, which is perfect for people who struggle with knee issues when riding. They have a very low stack height, improving power transfer and increasing ground clearance, a double win.
