The Tacx Neo is a very smart trainer indeed. The only fully direct drive trainer on the market it has no need for belt drive or internal gears. This means there is very little wasted energy, helping to keep the Neo very quiet but most importantly it makes it very powerful, giving it the highest power accuracy without requiring any calibration (no roll-down calibration tests to see here!). You can access your live ride metrics during sessions on the Neo via any compatible Bluetooth/Ant+ device, such as your Garmin (or equivalent), smartphone, tablet and your powerful PC or Mac. You can also enter the world of virtual reality and ride a course on your screen, with your Neo simulating riding conditions, either solo or competing in races against others through third party software such as Zwift or using Tacx' own Advanced software.
The Neo is highly intelligent and predicts a riders movement 1000 times a second, adjusting resistance accordingly for astonishing accuracy. This applies even when a rider is simulating a very steep climb or even simulating different road surfaces. The Neo uses an electro-motor capable of providing incredibly high levels of resistance at low speeds, meaning it can realistically simulate steep hill climbs up to 20% gradient. It is also the only indoor trainer that can simulate different types of road surfaces including, gravel, cobblestones and mud as well as others. When riding on cobbles in a Tacx film with Road Feel, you feel the vibrations in your legs, offering more realistic training for real life road surfaces. Not just concerned with recreating the difficulty of going up hills, the Neo also has downhill drive technology, meaning that when training software simulates a descent your wheels will continue spinning. All these efforts come together to mean a rider can realistically simulate every core aspect of a ride with unprecedented accuracy, taking their training at home to new levels.
The Neo has a large footprint to provide excellent base stability allowing a rider to really put the power down without fear of toppling the equipment. While the base is solid and sturdy, the central fin of the trainer has some flex built into to it. This encourages a gentle rocking when your putting lots of power down, to simulate the side to side movement of a bicycle under power when you go for it. The Neo projects a range of colours onto the floor under your bottom bracket, the colour changing indicates how much power your putting through the pedals. From low power green to amber to purple and then high power red the Neo provides a real-time visual indication of the wattage you are producing. The Neo comes with a front wheel support designed to simulate a natural riding position and improve stability, with rubber stoppers to stop the front wheel from turning. For those who like to maintain a tidy training space don't fear, as the extra-wide supportive base can be folded upwards to reduce the Neo's footprint significantly when not in use, as displayed in the product images. For versatile riders who like to train at a moments notice, or use the device as a portable pre-race warm-up, the Neo can be used for these purposes without being plugged in.
All these remarkable features combine to make the Neo a uniquely excellent trainer, capable of providing a very realistic simulation of a huge range of riding conditions, allowing you to replicate entire rides from the comfort of your own home. Ride cobbled classics, alpine climbs, daring descents and velodrome tracks or mud-fest MTB and Cross events; all can be soundly mimicked using this amazing indoor trainer. With every aspect of the Neo being designed for optimal quality riding simulation, it achieves unparalleled results via unique means.
